Kenton Gray Wins Big In the King Taco Legends Race!

2004-08-14

After the sorely disputed disqualification of his first victory race at Irwindale Speedway last week, tonight’s race was almost a re-run for Kenton, who led nearly every lap of the race, beating Tom Landreth for the second time by just over a car length. Kenton may yet win the appeal to INEX to have his race reinstated, but one way or the other, he’s not waiting around!

Despite claims of an unfriendly rivalry between Gray and the Landreth family, Tom Landreth and Kenton jumped out of their cars after the race and embraced warmly, showing the kind of mutual respect we always hope to see among great sportsmen. Tom praised Kenton while being interviewed as the second place finisher. The two of them are definitely well matched to take care of the front of the field in the Legends series.

Kenton seems to have found that "zone" that eludes so many racers, now on what looks like an unstoppable winning streak, leading his races so far ahead that no one can get near him for 35 straight laps.

After the car checked out to be fully legal at INEX following the race, the presence of Kenton Gray, Legends #1 as a terror on the track is now a matter of record. His bigger-than-life rise from a total unknown to one of the fastest up-and-coming rookies in recent history has surely made its mark on the minds of thousands of Southland race fans.

The move up to the NASCAR Super Late Class seems more appropriate than ever, and as FMG makes final arrangements to procure Kenton's new ride, we all wonder what kind of reception we'll be getting when he starts competing with the same zeal against the veterans of the Super Lates before the end of his first season back in racing after being off the track for so many years.

What will it be? Open arms and encouragement? Resentment? Whatever it is, it certainly won’t be boring!!

Stay tuned fans - the fun has only just begun!
